Yesterday I left my first comment at the wonderful Fluent Self blog (which I’ve linked to a LOT lately because I’ve been reading a TON of Havi’s posts). The post I commented on was about tools…the things we need to do our Work. And here’s the thing: sometimes these tools don’t look like tools. I don’t know about you, but when *I* think “business tools” I think things like filing cabinets and business cards and accounting software. But…no. Not for Pirate Queens, and not for Dancing Ninjas either. So I sat down last night and I wrote a list of MY tools. What do I need to do my Real Work? What makes everything flow? What are the actual requirements of this work?
Here is my answer:
I am a DANCING NINJA (an enabler of wildly joyful dancers) and I need tools! These are my tools:
~my body (preferably well-rested, well-cared-for, and chock full of Reiki)
~iPod and speakers and music!
~(the big one I am now working on) TIME AND KID-FREE SOLITUDE! Mama needs her solo-time!
~Time and space to dance. Living room dance parties pretty much every day
~A sense of playfulness and cheekiness
~Mia, the MacBook and internet access
~Pretty spiral-bound notebooks and awesome pens (extras of both for my toddler-son so he doesn’t get jealous!)
~my big white binder with looseleaf and my Goddess Year Workbook
~Oracle cards and smudging apparatus
~Colouring books and coloured pencils
~Tea with milk and some really good chocolate
~Time and permission to attend some dance/yoga classes
~Friendly space to hold my own classes
~Tenderness, gentleness, and self-care (which is kind of a given, but is such a new concept to me that it needs a clearly delineated space on my tools list!)
See what I mean? We have the actual things I need for class-giving (studio space, music) and blogging (computer, internet). But we also have the things I need to create the things I teach and blog about: pretty places to write notes and process my stuff, time and space to dance on my own, things to clear the energy of the space, opportunity and permission to explore and journal and fill my well. It’s pretty much the perfect list.
…except it’s missing ONE THING:
I desperately need a crown.
I had a super-incredible-amazing talk with Goddess Leonie last night, and we talked about how when we grow up we become queens of our kingdoms. We get to choose what’s important to us, and we get to make conscious decisions about everything that concerns everything else. We have the power.
I forget that. A lot. I let my inner critics rule me until I feel torn apart and desperately hopeless. I feel tiny and scared and incompetent and like I should just crawl back into bed and never leave the apartment because who would want to associate with a pathetic worm like me….you get the idea.
And, really, that’s what this Year of Homecoming is all about, isn’t it? This Meg-Turns-30-and-Comes-Into-Her-Own time? I need to make my crown and WEAR it. I need a symbol of coming into my own power so that I can remember that The Power Is Mine!
So I’m adding “Sovereignty Crown” to my list of tools. And I’m actually going to make one, for real. I was planning to make them for some kids I know for Christmas, but I didn’t manage it…and now I shall use the supplies FOR ME (and probably for Xander too :P). And I’m going to go to the source and read as much as I can about sovereignty and ruling your kingdom…HERE. …because I just adore the idea, and it feels so TRUE to me.
And yes, I will share pictures of my crown once it’s done! 😀
So…there…a little glimpse inside my process for today.
And also…a belated Wishcasting Wednesday post (because I keep meaning to do them and then I MISS them):
Yesterday Jamie asked “What aspect of your personality do you wish to express more of?”
And I answer “I wish to express more of my inner Queen. The one who holds her power with ease and comfort, who is centred and in touch with her inner wisdom.” Because that’s who I really am underneath it all. We all are. We just forget. It’s time to start remembering.
