Reverb is an every-day-in-December journalling/blogging practice. Each day features a prompt that either helps you integrate the past year or envision what you want to create in the next one (sometimes both). If you want to follow along with me, I’m posting a prompt on my Facebook page every morning.
Dec 4: Wonder. How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year? (Jeff Davis)
I have a lot of answers for this one (including dancing, gratitude journaling, and playing with Xander), but when I look at the year as a whole, the two biggest things I did this year to cultivate a sense of wonder were:
1. Write this blog. Blogging here encouraged me to be more present in my day-to-day life and to find things to “dance with.” Even when I was going through a rough time or having a crappy day, I could generally change my perspective by writing about “dancing with difficulty” or moving through stuckness. The messages I wrote here were for me as much as anyone else. And the regular writing practice meant that I took more notice of my life as it passed this year…it’s harder to lose track of the days when you’ve committed to writing personal-ish blog posts twice a week.
2. Actively seek inspiration. This year I dove even deeper into the world of the creative internet, and I shared my weekly findings in my Inspiration Tuesday posts. While I admit that sometimes the actual writing of the posts was irksome, the regular seeking, finding, and sharing of inspiration helped me in a major way. If you constantly surround yourself with voices of people who are seeking and finding wonder and magic in their lives, it rubs off. You can’t help it. It just happens. And that’s why I’m so glad that I took the time to compile those posts. I think my life would have been less wonder-full without them. 🙂
